About us

Non-Profit

The Edenvale Care Centre is a section 21 and NPO organization committed to serving our community by providing an ongoing infrastructure geared towards supporting some aspects of the physical, psychological and social issues that arise from HIV/Aids. This is achieved by providing a counseling support service for those diagnosed with HIV/Aids and for their families and friends, as well as physical care for those patients in the terminal stages of the disease.

Located on the corner of 6th Avenue and 4th Streets, Edenvale – in humble beginnings, the Edenvale Care Centre was a modest home which has been renovated to provide counseling and care giving facilities whilst doubling up as space for the administration of the activities Board. The physical care facility begins with an eleven-bed ward.

Running since late 2001, the AIDS line provides access to a service that forms an appointment based relationship with the patient aimed at giving comprehensive counseling support including lifestyle advice as well as trauma and grief counseling.  Over and above the AIDS line, counselors are now on duty at the Centre.

The 11-bed ward for terminal AIDS patients became operational in April 2004 at present we vary between 9 to 11 patients at a time.  Providing training of volunteers and families to care for those affected in a manner so as to afford them the dignity they deserve.  The Centre now has the services of a qualified training officer and three courses a year are carried out at the Centre for the training of volunteer counselors. The latter counselors will be encouraged to go back to their respective communities and do what is being done here.  These courses were previously done through the Health Department in Kempton Park.  Workshops are also being carried out on a regular basis at the Centre, and at businesses when requested to do so, in order to educate the public about HIV/AIDS and eradicate the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.
